Expertise, Guidance and Solutions

We provide all the services you need to do business in the UK, such as registering your company as a UK employer, payroll, preparation of tax returns and tax planning. Let us help set you up for success!

The United States is one of the few countries in the world where the tax you pay is based on citizenship, not residency. You may not be living there, but you will have to file an annual US tax return for your worldwide income. You may also need to file a UK tax return.

Many individuals are unaware of their tax responsibilities. The tax codes change regularly, and the intricacies of the two tax systems are difficult to understand. You could spend days searching for information online but still not find the answers you need. Fortunately, we are here to help, saving you time, hassle and worry.

Our team has a long and successful track record of helping US expats living in the UK. We will put our more than 15 years of experience to work for you.

What is the goal of the consultation?

Most clients who come to see us have done some research but hit a wall. They have specific questions they want to ask because they haven’t found the answers.

  • Will I have to pay taxes even though I don’t earn an income?
  • As an American expat in the UK, do I need to file US federal and state taxes?
  • If I give up my US citizenship, will I avoid paying tax in the US?

During the consultation, we will listen carefully to your tax concerns and provide detailed answers for your situation. The goal is to give you the information you need to make the right decisions.

Even if your particular issue is not listed here, we should be able to help. We cover all aspects of personal taxation in the UK and the US.

Below are some examples of questions we have received from clients during consultation sessions:

  • Does being self-employed in the UK change my US tax obligations?

  • I have a UK ISA with a mixture of investment trusts, shares and OEICs. Do I need to declare it as a PFIC?
  • How do I know I qualify as a UK resident?
  • How much of my foreign earned income can I exclude from US tax?
  • My UK employer pays into my pension scheme. Do I have to pay US tax on these contributions?
  • Which of my foreign bank accounts have to be reported to the IRS?
  • How do I avoid having my income taxed twice?
  • What income do I have to report on my US tax return?
  • I have a house in the UK that I’m renting out. Can I exclude the income I earn from it from my US taxes?

Process and Costs

The process of booking a telephone, Skype/Zoom or in-person consultation at our London office is simple and as follows:

Please complete the order form on this page, including your preferences for a day/time. Once we have received it we’ll send you an email with the payment information. You can pay by credit card or bank transfer. Following payment, we will contact you to confirm your appointment.

If, on the basis of the information provided by you, we conclude that we cannot help you, we will let you know in advance. Any fees already paid will be refunded in full.

The consultation lasts up to one hour and costs £280. If you do not use the full hour, you can make up the time with another consultation at no extra cost.

Client satisfaction is of the utmost importance. If during the first 15 minutes you decide the consultation doesn’t suit your needs or you are anything other than 100% satisfied, you can cancel. If you do so, you will receive a full refund.

We strongly advise you to prepare fully with your list of questions. We are only available for one hour, so you need to make the most effective use of the time. It is a good idea to write your questions down ahead of time.

Consultations are usually held within one week of booking, but if we can, we can offer you an earlier appointment if this is necessary.
