VAT was already one of the most complex and onerous tax regimes before Brexit. Now the UK has left the European Union; the process is more complicated with significant changes to long-standing VAT and customs rules.

Whether you´e a European company exporting or importing goods and services to and from the UK, the country´s withdrawal from the EU will impact your business.

The new rules are causing a lot of confusion and finding the right information for your situation is akin to looking for a needle in a haystack.

If you´re struggling to make sense of VAT in a post-Brexit world and wondering how the changes apply to your company, we can help.

We invite you to book a one-hour, no-obligation consultation with one of our expert advisers to have your questions answered. The consultation will be conducted by phone, Skype/Zoom or in-person at our London office.

Let us help you safely navigate the VAT minefield.

Your VAT Questions Answered

The UK exited the EU VAT regime, Single Market and Customs Union on 1 January 2021.

Consequently, there are many new trade rules and regulations regarding the treatment of services and supplies between the UK and the European Union. However, lots of businesses are struggling to meet the challenges of a changing VAT landscape and don’t know what it means for them.

Our VAT experts closely monitored Brexit developments and have a deep understanding of the new VAT rules and regulations. At St Matthew, we are well placed to answer your questions, keep you informed of the latest developments and deliver solutions that work for you.

What is the goal of the consultation?

We know the new post-Brexit rules can be confusing for European companies. Even businesses with accountants managing their books find it challenging to understand how the changes will continue to impact their VAT obligations.

We are hearing from many European business owners who have lots of questions about what to do and how to do it.

For example:

  • Does my company have to pay VAT on goods we're importing from the UK?
  • Do we have to pay VAT on goods we´re exporting to the UK?
  • Do I need to register for UK VAT if I only sell digital products?

During your one-hour consultation, Wendy or Gemma will answer every question you have so you can find a clear way forward.

How St Matthew Can Help

No matter the size or nature of your business, St Matthew can help you with the following services:

  • VAT Registration with HMRC
  • VAT Administration
  • Advice on VAT Planning
  • VAT Reporting
  • EORI Number
  • Negotiating with HMRC in case of disputes

If your issue is not listed above, our specialist accountants should still be able to help. We handle all aspects of UK VAT for European businesses.

Here are some examples of questions clients have put to us:

  • We sell digital services to UK consumers. Can we still use VAT Mini One Stop Shop (MOSS) for our UK VAT obligations?
  • What are VAT requirements for moving goods through Northern Ireland?
  • How can I claim a VAT refund in the UK?
  • How do I charge VAT while I´m waiting for my UK VAT number?
  • I want to export goods from France, via Northern Ireland to Great Britain. How do I show I´´m eligible for VAT exemption exports to a third country?
  • Does my company have to pay VAT on goods we export to Great Britain?
  • I run a Madrid-based business that provides services to UK partners. What are my VAT obligations?
  • Can I defer payment of import VAT when importing goods from the UK to the EU?
